“Hurry is fear disguised as passion.”
We live in a world of instant everything. How frequently do you find yourself standing in front of the microwave dancing and squirming wondering when it is going to get finished? It takes me 2 minutes to fix my oatmeal in the morning and boy, there is so much to do – when am I going to hear the “ding”? Have you ever actually timed a red light? You may be shocked at how short the physiological/clock time is. The psychological time however is often inordinate!
While this may seem harmless in-and-of-itself, it is indicative of a debilitating phenomenon that hinders and hampers the quality of your life.
“Impatience is ego struggling for control.”
I am often asked, “James, you teach that thought creates and that we can focus that thought to create what we desire, right?” Right. “Then how can I accelerate my ability to make this happen?” Immediately I know that the familiar demon of hurry and impatience is in motion. This is life suppressing in that this ego demon is rooted in doubt and fear.
Now follow this through: if you unequivocally KNOW that all you envision is coming to you, you do not hurry. Yes, you may be excited and passionate but you act in calm and completely centered confidence that all goodness is on its way.
As you consider this it may make sense on a philosophical level, but until you put it into consistent practice you don’t own it. There is a big difference between speaking from theory and speaking from experience. Theory lies in the conscious mind – the domain of the ego – while experience is The Path of Power and the domain of the Spiritual Warrior.
The ego is like a wild boar on steroids and one of it’s prime motivators is insecurity. Now your ego will never admit this axiom but it still remains true. For this reason, to the degree it can acquire, predict, and control it feels more empowered and secure.
It is not your job to play the role of the Creative Spirit. It is your job to decide where you are going and what you choose to create. And it is your job to play full-out in The Journey toward that outcome. It is your job to act with total confidence, certainty and faith and then “let go” once you have done your best and wait the results in peace.
Finally (and most importantly), it is your job to enjoy the ride – the end result (no matter how grandiose) is empty without enjoying the process of getting there. It is The Journey and all its adventures that emblazon themselves for eternity upon the screen of our memory.
During a recent Path of Power event, myself and several great thinkers were exploring this concept and the question was asked, ”James, how do you know the difference between when you are in a hurry and when you are acting with passion.”
I have contemplated frequently this great question and offer the following options for your consideration. When you find yourself potentially in that frantic mode, take a moment and ask yourself:
- Am I having fun?
- Does what I am doing right now bring me joy?
- Is this a mission or an adventure?
- Am I following my love or destiny?
- Am I grateful for the opportunity to do what I am doing right now?
Your answers will tell you where your head and heart reside. If you are not having fun, full of joy, living a great adventure, in love with what you are doing, and full of gratitude – you are operating out of ego. Lack of fun, limited joy, “mission”, “destiny” and lack of gratitude are all driven by the wild boar ego and its need to predict and control.
The word “inspired” translated from the Latin is “filled with Spirit.” When you are not living out of inspiration, your life is passing you bye. You are furthermore sending out thought vibrations that are detrimental to your own good and you are certainly not enjoying The Journey.
What is it worth to gain all the toys, goals, and treasures and lose fulfillment and life?
Have a magical week and make your life magnificent!
Continued success,
Your Spiritual Warrior coach,
James
